Free printing is not the only thing of importance that can be found in the Zach S. Henderson library. Staring March 14, 2009 until April 22, 2009, an exhibit on Benjamin Franklin will be on display.

The display will be based off of an exhibit mounted at Constitution Hall in Philadelphia. The display will be entitled Benjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World. To kick off the new exhibit, and celebrate Franklin’s 300th birthday, the library is sponsoring a poetry and prose contest.

The contest opened Sept.17, 2008 and entries will be accepted until March 1, 2009. The entries do not need to be academic, however the poems and prose do need to be about, or inspired by, Benjamin Franklin.

According to the Librarian Assistant, JoEllen Broome, the contest is to commemorate Ben Franklin’s writings and the new exhibit coming to GSU.  “It’s a way for students to get involved,” Broome said.

Broome said winners of the contests will receive cash prizes.  The money received by winners will come from a grant the library received and the Library Foundation Fund.

According to a release by the Henderson Library, the poems should be fun and using personal experience is encouraged.  The release urges students to use the time they dressed up like Benjamin Franklin, or tied a key to a kite to see what would happen.

Prose entries must have a 1000 word limit, and the poetry entries have no limit. All entries must be submitted to Dr. Rebecca Zieglar at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it in a word of PDF document. Entries must include a full name, eagle identification number, preferred e-mail address and telephone number. First place receives 200.00 second place, $100.00 and third place $75.00.
