The Georgia Southern University men’s basketball team defeated Western Carolina University Saturday afternoon 68-65. GSU picked up its third road win of the season and are now on a two game winning streak after picking up road wins over both the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Western Carolina University. The Eagles shot an impressive 57 percent from the floor and held the Catamounts to only 46 percent shooting on the night. Leading the Eagles in scoring was sophomore guard Jelani Hewitt, who finished the game with 18 points and 50 percent shooting from the field. Sophomore guard Eric Ferguson had somewhat of an off game, scoring only 13 points. Ferguson did on the glass however, pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. GSU is now 8-4 in conference play, tying them for second in the Southern Division with Wofford. GSU now controls its destiny in the SoCon, with only six games remaining in the regular season; all six being conference games. The Eagles will take on Furman University tonight in the Hanner Fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m. GSU lost the last matchup 64-54, and will be looking to even the season series against the Paladins.
