The Georgia Southern University men’s basketball team defeated The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga 75-72 in Tennessee Saturday night.

GSU was down by 16 at one point before rallying back to tie it up. Sophomore guard Jelani Hewitt then made a game-winning three pointer that gave the team its second road win this season.

The Eagles, who are now 7-4 in conference play and 9-12 overall, picked up a key conference win on the road, where they have struggled thus far.

GSU went into halftime down by 10 and struggled from the field in the first half. Scoring picked up in the second half, and led to a key victory for the Eagles.

Hewitt was the hero of the game, hitting the aforementioned game-winner. He had 16 points in the game, and shot 50 percent from three point range.
Ben Drayton III, a senior, finished with 16 points. He also had three assists and shot 46 percent for the game.

Sophomore forward Eric Ferguson led the team with seven rebounds and two blocks, and also added 15 points of his own.
Neither team shot particularly well, with the Mocs shooting 46 percent from the field, while GSU only shot 43 percent.

Both teams struggled from the free throw line a bit also, with the Eagles shooting

78 percent, while Chattanooga only made 73 percent of its shots.

Up next for GSU is a meeting with Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. on Feb. 4. The 2 p.m. game will mark the end of a three-game road trip for the Eagles.
