As new shows premier and old ones return this season, Georgia Southern University students share the television shows that have them hooked this semester.

“I’m really starting to like the ‘New Girl.’ It’s quirky, funny and it gives me something to watch during the week,” Harli Gottesman, freshman nursing major, said.

Fox’s new comedy series “New Girl” has grabbed the attention of GSU students around campus with its take on modern relationships. With Zooey Deschanel as the lead character, it has already received Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Series and a Writers Guild nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Television for a New Series.  New episodes of the “New Girl” are aired at 9 p.m. on Fox every Tuesday.

“I think Face Off is my favorite show right now. It’s really interesting to see how some face paint can make a person look so different. It makes me wish I had the talent to do that,” David Simmons, junior computer science major, said.

The show “Face Off” is a competition in which contestants compete against each other by transforming the appearance of another person using full body paint, make-up, casting and molding. Each episode has a different challenge for the contests and after they are finished creating their living art a panel of three judges critique their work. The judges are special effect artists that have worked in numerous movies, including “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Underworld” and “The X-Files.” GSU students can uncover the beauty of special effects on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on the SyFy channel.

“’The Walking Dead’ is definitely my favorite T.V. series. It’s got action, it’s dramatic and it has zombies in it. You can never go wrong with zombies,” Phillip Sheffield, freshman international business major, said.

Based off the popular comic book, “The Walking Dead” is an award winning television series about the zombie apocalypse. The series centers around a group of survivors lead by police officer Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, as they try to stay alive and find a place of refuge amid the chaos. The show has gained several awards and nominations over the years, including The Saturn Award for Best Television Presentation. The show also gained a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series. AMC’s original series airs every Sunday at 9 p.m.

No matter the category, there’s something on television this season for every student to watch.
